Recommended Service Interval

Adjust Cotton Fan Belts

Annually

CAUTION: Shut off engine and remove key BEFORE making fan belt adjustments.

IMPORTANT: Correct belt tension MUST be maintained to avoid premature wear and belt damage.

  1. Turn key off and remove from switch.

  2. To inspect belts and check adjustment:

    1. Remove side inspection door (A) on both sides of machine.

    2. Inspect belts for damage and replace if necessary.

    3. If end of spring gauge (C) is not within width of washer (F), adjustment is necessary.

  3. To adjust cotton fan belts:

    1. Open belly shield (B) to obtain access to both fan adjusters.

    2. Loosen jam nut (D).

    3. Tighten or loosen adjusting nut (E) until end of spring gauge (C) is within the THICKNESS of washer (F).

    4. Tighten jam nut (D).

  4. Close belly shield and install side inspection doors.

  5. If belts are replaced, seat new belts as follows:

    1. Start engine and run at slow idle.

    2. Engage cotton fans.

    3. Run engine at full speed for 3 minutes.

    4. Reduce engine speed to slow idle and turn off fans.

    5. Repeat steps b—d three more times.

    6. Stop engine and remove key.

    7. Check adjustment of belts and readjust if necessary.

    8. Check tension on new fan belts periodically. (See Break-in section for intervals.)
