Recommended Service Interval

Flush Cooling System

Every 6 Years or 6000 Hours

  1. CAUTION: NEVER remove surge tank cap while coolant or engine is hot. Explosive release of fluids from pressurized cooling system can cause serious burns to you or others. ALWAYS loosen surge tank cap and drain plugs slowly to relieve pressure.

    Shut off engine and allow to cool for 15—20 minutes.

  2. Remove surge tank cap (A).

  3. Remove access panel on front of cooling module for access to radiator drain valve (B).

  4. NOTE: Approximate capacity of cooling system is 56 L (15 gal.).

    Open radiator drain valve and engine drain valve (C) to drain cooling system.

  5. Close drain valves and fill system with clean water.

  6. Run engine until it reaches operating temperature.

  7. Turn heater on and leave on until finished.

  8. CAUTION: Explosive release of fluids from pressurized cooling system can cause serious burns to you or others. ALWAYS loosen drain plugs slowly to relieve pressure.

    Stop engine and drain water before rust or sediment settles.

  9. Close drain valves. Fill system with a solution of clean water and John Deere Cooling System Cleaner or equivalent. (Follow instructions provided with cleaner.)

  10. Drain cooling system again.

  11. Close drain valves.

  12. Fill system with proper coolant. (See FILLING COOLING SYSTEM in this section.)
