Check Front Axle Toe-In

N101645

A - Marks

B - Centerline

C - Rear Spacing Dimension

D - Front Spacing Dimension

  1. NOTE: Check toe-in with machine at spacing most often used when operating sprayer.

IMPORTANT: Failure to rephase steering system before setting toe-in can result in insufficient ball joint thread engagement on cylinder barrel.

NOTE: If cylinders or hoses are repaired then system bleeding is required. See your John Deere dealer for proper bleeding procedure.

    Rephase steering system:

    1. Turn steering wheel to the left until cylinder reaches end of stroke, and phasing is achieved.

    2. Turn steering wheel 3 additional rotations.

    3. Repeat procedure turning opposite direction.

  2. Position wheels for straight ahead travel.

  3. Drive forward 6 m (20 feet).

  4. Place a mark at front and rear of each wheel rim, on centerline (B).

  5. IMPORTANT: Measurements taken at wheel rim, not at outside of tire.

Measure from mark-to-mark diagonally to verify that wheels are straight ahead. If measurements are not equal within 6.3 mm (0.25 in.), turn steering wheel slightly to adjust tires and measure again.

  6. IMPORTANT: Toe-in is measured at wheel rim, not at outside of tire.

Measure from mark-to-mark on rear of each wheel rim. Record measurement for rear spacing dimension (C).

  7. Measure from mark-to-mark on front of each wheel rim. Record measurement for front spacing dimension (D).

  8. Subtract front spacing from rear spacing to obtain toe-in dimension. Dimension (D) should be as specified, less than dimension (C).
