System Overview

The GS2 Rate Controller system controls applications on pull-type sprayers, NH3 applicators, and liquid fertilizer systems. It is designed to work seamlessly with Swath Control Pro in order to turn implement sections on and off according to a coverage map and GPS location.

NOTE: See GS2 Basics operator's manual for further details on Swath Control Pro.

The system is comprised of the following hardware components:

  • GreenStar 2100 or 2600 Display.
  • GS2 Rate Controller Flexbox.
  • Foot Switch.
  • Wiring Harnesses.
  • Switch Box Controller PF90514 (optional).
  • GreenStar cab harness.
  • Starfire iTC GPS receiver (optional).
  • Implement Height Switch (required for NH3 and liquid fertilizer, but not sprayers).
  • When planter is selected, no minimum speed is required.

The GS2 Rate Controller (GRC) can control up to ten implement sections depending on the type of valves (see Maximum Number of Sections Table). If fence row nozzles are present, the system can control up to eight sections plus two fence row sections depending on sprayer type. The GRC opens and closes a flow control valve and individual implement section valves based upon display settings, vehicle speed, foot switch status, signals from a flowmeter, and the status of switches on the optional Switch Box Controller.

The purpose of the Switch Box Controller (SBC) is to monitor the status of 10 section switches plus a master switch and broadcast the switch messages to the GRC. The master switch is hard-wired to the GRC. This allows the operator to manually enable or disable individual sections rather than rely solely upon the display for these settings. The master switch permits the operator to shut off all sections. The master switch on the switch box serves the same purpose as the foot switch, and only one of the two is required for system operation.

In order for the system to open an individual section valve under normal operating conditions, the following conditions must be met:

  • Master switch must be on.
  • Section switch must be on (if Switch Box is present).
  • Operator must have turned on the respective section on the display.
  • Swath Control must have commanded the section to be on (if applicable) or Swath Control Pro is deactivated.
  • Vehicle speed (based on GPS) must be greater than 1 k/h (0.62 mph).
  • The implement is lowered into the ground, activating the implement switch (not required for sprayers).
