Theory of Operation
GreenStar Rate Controller is a flow-based system that controls product application
on pull-behind sprayers, self-propelled sprayers, liquid fertilizer
tools, NH3 tools, and planters. The application target rate is operator
defined and stored in the GreenStar™ Rate Controller.
The controller utilizes flow meter feedback and ground speed
using global positioning system (GPS), Radar, or wheel speed in calculating
the application rate. The controller uses this calculation to make
system adjustments to achieve target rate. The controller signals
the valve to open or close and integrates with the existing product
delivery system pump to increase or decrease product amount applied.
An optional pressure sensor can be installed to monitor system pressure
on the GS3 2630 Display. Rate controller cannot use the pressure sensor
to adjust application rates.
The rate controller is designed to turn implement on and off
using coverage, boundary, and GPS information to work with John Deere
Section Control.
(Reference GS3 2630 Display Operator's Manual for details on
Section Control.)
The controller does rate smoothing. Rate smoothing removes small
fluctuations in application rate values shown on display. If actual
value is within a user-defined percentage of target value, target
value is displayed. Percentage range is 3–15% and system defaults
to 3%.
Planters Only:
GreenStar™ Rate Controller can communicate with SeedStar controllers
to control engagement of hydraulic variable rate motors on select
planter configurations. GreenStar™ Rate Controller can also
control electronic row clutches.
