Pick up a Round Bale on a Slope

W00270-UN-04DEC91
Prevent possible injury caused by a tractor rollover when
handling round bales on a slope. Avoid traveling across the slope
whenever possible. Drive UP the slope to pick up the bale and DOWN
in reverse. Move the bale as close to the ground as possible. Prevent
possible injury caused by being struck by a rolling bale. NEVER use
the tractor or loader to stop a rolling bale.
-
Approach the bale with the
tractor facing up hill, spear level, and centered on the bale.
-
Push the spear into the
bale until the bale is against the frame.
-
Raise and roll the bale
back high enough to provide the ground clearance necessary for transport.
-
Be sure to select a low
tractor speed before turning, if transporting a bale across a slope
is necessary.
