Detach Loader When Equipped with Parking Kit (400E Loader)


Remove Ballast Box

  1. Prevent possible injury from tractor instability. Remove the ballast box from the hitch BEFORE detaching the loader. To prevent possible injury caused by unexpected movement:

    1. Park machine on a hard, level surface.
    2. Engage the tractor park brake and place the transmission in PARK.
    3. Disengage the PTO.
    4. Shut off engine and remove ignition key.

    A - Center Link

    B - Quick-Lock Pin (3 used)

    Ballast box with a 3-point hitch:

    1. Lower the ballast box to the ground.

    2. Remove quick-lock pins (B) from hitch pins and install in the storage position on the tractor draft links.

    3. Remove the tractor draft links from hitch pins.

    4. Remove the quick-lock pin (B) from the center link (A). Position the tractor center link in the transport location. Reinstall the center link and quick-lock pin.

    A - Latch Control Lever (2 used)

    Ballast box with a quick-hitch:

    1. Lower the ballast box close to the ground.

    2. Raise both latch control levers (A) on the quick-hitch.

    3. Start the engine.

    4. Lower the ballast box to the ground. Continue lowering the quick-hitch until hooks clear hitch pins.



  3. Carefully drive the tractor away.


Detach Loader

  1. Prevent possible injury from loader instability. Only park the loader with a parking kit installed. Fixed loaders are permanently attached to the tractor and cannot be detached. See a John Deere dealer for a parking stand kit attachment to convert a fixed loader to a parking loader.

    A - Angle, 45°

    Raise the boom slightly and dump the bucket to a 45° angle (A) as shown.



  2. Lower the bucket to the ground and apply slight down-pressure. Do not raise the front tires off the ground.

  3. Shut off engine and remove ignition key.

    Lower parking stands on both sides:

    1. Remove the quick-lock pin (C) and pin (A) supporting the parking stand (B).

      D - Support Bracket

      E - Boom

      Lower the parking stand (B) and raise the support bracket (D) toward the boom (E) as shown.

    3. Install the pin (A) through the support bracket and boom. Fasten using the quick-lock pin (C) as shown.

    4. Repeat on the opposite side.

    If necessary, move the tractor and adjust the loader to ensure that the bucket and stands are firmly on the ground.

    Lower the loader until the bucket and parking stands are flat on the ground.



  6. Move the bucket until the pressure is removed from pivot pins (B and C). Do not raise parking stands off the ground.

  7. Shut off engine and remove ignition key.

  8. Remove quick-lock pins (A) and pivot pins (B and C).

    Remove cylinder supports (A) from the tractor storage compartment (B).

    D - Housing, Lift Cylinder (1 each side)

    Avoid damaging lift cylinder rods (C). DO NOT allow rods to rest in cylinder supports (B).

    Hang cylinder supports (B) on booms (A) and place lift cylinder housings (D) in supports as shown.

    Install quick-lock pins (C) on pivot pins (B) and store pivot pins on hooks (A) as shown.



  12. Start the engine.

  13. Slowly back the tractor away from the loader.

  14. Shut off engine and remove ignition key.

    Relieve the hydraulic pressure. (See Relieve Hydraulic Pressure in Controls section.)
