Before Starting the Engine

causym CAUTION: Prevent asphyxiation. Engine exhaust fumes can cause sickness or death to you or someone else.

If you must operate engine in a building, be positive there is adequate ventilation. Either use an exhaust pipe extension to remove the exhaust fumes or open doors and windows to bring enough outside air into the area.

1. Check fuel gauge to be sure tractor has plenty of fuel.

2. Place gear shift lever (A) in NEUTRAL or PARK and range shift lever (B) in NEUTRAL. Starter will not operate if gear shift lever is not in neutral or park.

3. Place electro-hydraulic (EH) directional reverser lever (C) in NEUTRAL. Starter will not operate if electro-hydraulic directional reverser lever is not in neutral.

4. Check that hitch position and hitch control lever (A) agree. If hitch is down, lever should be in full-forward position. If hitch is up, lever should be in full back position, in transport slot. Hitch will move to agree with control lever position when the engine starts.

NOTE: Engine will start with knob up, but PTO will not turn until switch is cycled and reset.

5. Disengage PTO; Push PTO switch knob (B) down to disengage.

6. Turn key to RUN position for indicator bulb check. If any indicator does not light, see your John Deere dealer.
