Changing MFWD Axle Housing Oil

SERVICE INTERVAL - 600 HOURS

 

NOTE: Approximate axle housing oil capacity is 5 L (5.3 qt).

1. Park tractor on level surface.

2. Remove plugs (A and B).

3. After oil has drained, apply pipe sealant with TEFLON ® , or equivalent, to threads of drain plug (B) and install. Tighten to specifications.

4. Add oil until even with bottom of check/fill port (A). John Deere HY-GARD oil is recommended. (See MFWD AXLE HOUSING AND WHEEL HUB OIL in Fuel, Lubricants and Coolant section.)

5. Install plug (A).

IMPORTANT: Check oil level after 30 minutes. Oil flows very slowly through bearings and axle housings.

6. After approximately 30 minutes of operation, recheck oil level. Add oil as necessary.

7. Apply pipe sealant with TEFLON™, or equivalent, to threads of plug (A).

8. Install plug and tighten to specifications.
