Break-In Service

IMPORTANT: Keep wheel hardware tight to avoid tractor damage. Check wheel hardware torque before operating, twice during first ten hours of operation, after fifty hours of operation, and periodically thereafter.

5425, 5525 and 5625: New engines are filled with John Deere DIESEL ENGINE BREAK-IN OIL. If oil is required in the first 100 hours, be sure to use BREAK-IN oil. Change oil and filter after first 100 hours of operation.

During the First 10 Hours of Operation :

  • Perform daily or 10 Hours Service. (See Service Interval Chart in this section.)
  • Tighten wheel hardware. (See Wheels, Tires and Treads in section 70.)

After the First Week or 50 Hours of Operation :

  • Tighten wheel hardware. (See Wheels, Tires and Treads in section 70.)
  • Check fan belt tension. (See Inspecting Fan Belt Tensioner in section 65.)
  • Tighten air intake and cooling system hose clamps
  • Perform Weekly or 50 Hours Service. (See Service Interval Chart in this section.)

After the First 100 Hours of Operation :

  • Replace transmission-hydraulic filter element. (See Replacing Transmission-Hydraulic Filter in section 30.)
  • 5425, 5525 and 5625: Change engine oil and filter. 1 (See Changing Engine Oil and Filter-5425, 5525 and 5625 in section 30.)
  • SyncShuttle™ Transmission: Check clutch pedal free play. (See Checking and Adjusting Clutch Pedal Free Play (SyncShuttle™ Transmission) in section 30.)
