Adjusting 540/540E PTO Lever and Linkage-If Equipped

1. Remove spring locking pin (A) from upper control cable.

2. Disconnect yoke (B) from arm (C).

3. Rotate arm (C) to the rear position (clockwise).

4. Move 540/540E PTO lever (D) to the forward position.

5. Loosen jam nut from yoke (B). Adjust yoke until spring locking pin (A) aligns with hole in yoke and arm (C). Install spring locking pin and tighten jam nut to yoke.

6. Start engine and move throttle lever until 1700 rpm is indicated on tachometer.

NOTE: Do not move throttle lever after 1700 rpm is reached.

7. Shut engine off with throttle lever positioned at 1700 rpm.

NOTE: Make sure throttle linkage (F) at fuel injection pump does not move during the next step.

8. Slowly move the 540/540E control lever fully forward. Make sure throttle linkage (F) does not move forward during this step. If linkage moves, see step 9; if linkage does not move, proceed to step 10.

9. If linkage moves forward, loosen jam nut (G) and turn adjustment nut (H) counterclockwise until a gap of 6 mm (0.25 in.) is between (E and H). Repeat steps 6, 7 and 8.

10. Loosen jam nut (G) and turn adjustment nut (H) until seated against plate (E).
