IMPORTANT: Prevent premature axle failure. Carefully follow
drain and fill procedure.
The transmission, hydraulic reservoir and rear axle are all
included in the hydraulic oil system.
Use an oil drain container with a maximum capacity of 293.4
L (77.5 gal), depending on option configuration.
-
Park tractor on level ground and shut engine OFF. Allow oil to cool for few minutes.
-
Attach a hose to hydraulic reservoir drain valve (A) in gudgeon
area at rear of reservoir. Open drain valve to direct oil into a catch
container.
-
NOTE: Remove all three drain plugs to completely drain axle
oil and any debris from each separate axle compartment.
Remove plug (B) from bottom of transmission.
-
Remove all three front axle drain plugs (C) to drain oil.
-
Remove all rear axle drain plugs (D) to drain oil.

Perform Following Steps For All Tractors:
NOTE: The hydraulic reservoir will not hold total oil volume for the system until engine is started and oil
is circulated to transmission and axles, resulting in a lower reservoir
oil level. The reservoir will need to be filled to the correct level.
NOTE: Clean the hydraulic oil system vent filter while the side
panel is removed. See CLEAN HYDRAULIC OIL SYSTEM VENT FILTER in this
Section.
Remove right-hand cab panel retaining screws (A) and remove
right-hand cab side panel (B).
-
Remove reservoir fill cap (C) and add remaining hydraulic oil
volume to the reservoir.

OIL LEVEL CHECK PROCEDURE:
IMPORTANT: Poor shift quality and/or transmission damage may
occur if the HY-GARD or JDM J20C specifications are not followed.
To ensure proper shift quality, an oil meeting HY-GARD or JDM J20C
specifications must be used.
Transmission lever should be in PARK.
-
For Single Reduction Axle Tractors: perform
steps 28 and 29. Start and set engine speed at 1200 rpm for approximately 5 minutes or until oil is circulated and
appears at both axle ports.
For Double Reduction Axle Tractors: Go to step 30.
-
Stop engine and install both axle plugs. Go to step 30.
-
NOTE: DO NOT step on brake pedal during this segment of the
procedure to avoid additional oil flow to the axles and resulting
in an inaccurate oil level check.
Perform For All Tractors:
Start engine and set engine speed at 1200
rpm for 5 minutes.
-
Shut engine OFF and wait 5 minutes for oil level to stabilize.
-
Add more of remaining oil volume to hydraulic reservoir if oil
level drops to Do Not Start (D) mark. Then
resume operation of tractor at 1200 rpm per the oil level checking
procedure.
-
Check to ensure transmission/hydraulic reservoir/axle oil level
is visible between “Min Cold” (C) and “Full Cold”
(B) marks in the sight gauge.
NOTE: Volume capacity between “Min Cold” mark (C)
and “Full Cold” mark (B) is 11.4 L (3 gal).
Estimate volume of oil that needs to be removed or added.
If oil level is visible between Min Cold (C) and Full Cold (B), tractor can be
used for normal operation.
-
Identify oil volume required in reservoir until it reaches marks Min Cold (C) or Full Cold (B). If oil level is below (C) in sight gauge, add HY-GARD Hydraulic
Oil through reservoir fill cap for 1500 Hour service procedure.
For daily checks or add oil if sight gauge is below Min Cold (C) mark, but above Do Not Start (D) mark, add required volume of HY-GARD Transmission-Hydraulic
Oil using fill tube, at rear of transmission.
If oil volume required is below Do Not Start mark, add required oil through hydraulic
reservoir fill cap, under right-hand cab side panel.
NOTE: An exception is implements with large hydraulic cylinders
that can remove large volumes of oil from the tractor's hydraulic
system. Oil level should be near bottom mark of sight gage with implement
positioned to contain maximum amount of oil.
NOTE: Oil level in reservoir will rise as temperature increases.
Oil level in the reservoir will fluctuate depending upon the
volume of oil exchanged with an attached implement.
If low oil level results in pressure drop, a STOP engine light
will come on.
-
The oil level checking procedure should be repeated and oil
level adjusted until oil level stabilizes between Min Cold (C) and Full Cold (B) marks.
-
If oil level is above Full Cold (B)
mark, remove enough oil to bring it down to Full
Cold mark level.
Recommended method to remove oil is use drain valve at rear
and under the hydraulic reservoir, in hinge area. A hose can be attached
to drain valve to direct oil into a container.
-
Reinstall right-hand cab side panel and tighten using retaining
screws.
