Using the Brakes

RXA0108454-UN-12JUL10
A - Brake Pedal
CAUTION: Avoid possible personal injury. Reduce speed if towed
load weighs more than the tractor or transporting loads under adverse
conditions. Avoid hard braking applications. (See implement manual
and Transport Section.)
IMPORTANT: Avoid unnecessary wear on the brakes. DO NOT rest
foot on the brake pedal during tractor operation.
NOTE: Brake life can be extended when stopping large loads by
using a combination of engine motoring and service brake torque to
slow the vehicle. This can be achieved by downshifting and then using
the service brakes to further slow the vehicle and bring engine speed
to fast idle.
Test brakes with engine stopped to be sure manual brake system
is functioning. (See General Maintenance and Inspection Section).
Press brake pedal (A) to stop tractor while disengaging the
clutch.
Do not over speed engine to maintain an elevated engine speed
(above 1800 rpm) when aggressively braking to maintain the flow of
cooling oil to the service brakes.
