Crankshaft Vibration Damper Radial (Concentricity)

  1. Grasp crankshaft vibration damper with both hands and attempt to turn it in both directions. If rotation is felt, crankshaft vibration damper is defective and should be replaced.

IMPORTANT: Crankshaft vibration damper is not repairable and should be replaced every 4500 hours or 60 months, whichever occurs first.

  2. Check crankshaft vibration damper radial runout by positioning a dial indicator so probe contacts crankshaft vibration damper outer diameter.

  3. Remove starter motor.

  4. Rotate crankshaft using JDG1704 or JDG10221 flywheel turning tool as shown.

  5. Note dial indicator reading. If runout exceeds specification, replace crankshaft vibration damper.
