Check Runout
-
IMPORTANT: Crankshaft vibration damper assembly is not repairable
and should be replaced every 4500 hours or 60 months, whichever occurs
first.
Remove belts (shown removed).
-
Grasp crankshaft vibration damper with both hands and attempt
to turn it in both directions. If rotation is felt, crankshaft vibration
damper is defective and should be replaced.
-
Check crankshaft vibration damper radial runout by positioning
dial indicator so probe contacts crankshaft vibration damper outer
diameter.
-
With engine at operating temperature, rotate crankshaft using
JD281A, JDE81-4, or JDE83 flywheel turning tool.
-
Note dial indicator reading. If runout exceeds specification,
replace crankshaft vibration damper.
