Inspecting and Replacing Alternator/Fan Belt

Service Intervals:

At first 100 hours

Every 500 hours

  1. NOTE: Fan drive belt is equipped with an automatic tensioner which does not require adjustment.

    IMPORTANT: Cab Tractors: DO NOT remove belt guard fastened to A/C compressor. Compressor will be loose if cap screws are removed.

    A - Hex Socket Head Cap Screw, Washer and Flange Nut

    B - Cap Screw (2 used)

    C - Hex Socket Head Cap Screw

    Remove hex socket head cap screw, washer and flanged nut (A) from right-side guard brace.



  2. Remove hex socket head cap screw (C) from bottom of guard.

  3. Remove two cap screws (B) retaining guard to radiator. Remove right-side guard.

    B - Hex Socket Head Cap Screw, Washer and Flange Nut

    C - Hex Socket Head Cap Screw

    Remove hex socket head cap screw, washer and flanged nut (B) from left-side guard brace.



  5. Remove hex socket head cap screw (C) from bottom of guard.

  6. Remove two cap screws (B) retaining guard to radiator. Remove left-side guard.

    B - Left-Side Cap Screw

    C - Damper Guard

    Loosen right-side cap screw (A).



  8. Remove left-side cap screw (B).

  9. Swing damper guard (C) forward away from damper.

    A - Belt

    B - Breaker Bar

    Release tension on belt using a long-handle 1/2 in. drive breaker bar (B) to pull tensioner away from engine.

    Remove belt (A) from alternator pulley.



  11. Release tension on tensioner and remove breaker bar.

  12. Remove belt.

  13. Install new belt in reverse order of removal.
