Replacing Thermostat Valve and Changing Engine Coolant—C-Type

    A - Radiator Cap

    B - Coolant Recovery Tank and Protective Plate

    C - Hose and Clamps

    Coolant can be hot. Wait until radiator and engine block cool down before touching them.
    Do not remove cap of coolant recovery tank until the water temperature has lowered to approx. ambient temperature.

    Remove radiator cap (A).



  2. Unfasten clamps (B), remove hose, and drain coolant into a suitable container.

    Coolant recovery tank cap (A) is responsible for maintaining cooling system pressurized. Check condition of seal and replace if necessary.

    Remove cap screws (A) and remove cover (B).



  4. Remove thermostat valve.

  5. Reinstall cover (B) without the thermostat valve, tighten bolts (A) to specified torque:

    Bolts (B)Torque47 N·m (35 lb·ft.)

  6. Fill system with clean water and let engine operate until reaching service temperature.

  7. Shut off engine and drain system again as described before.

    When reinstalling components, install a new thermostat valve.

    C - Filler Neck

    D - Filler Neck

    Through filler necks (C) and (D), refill system with coolant recommended in Section Fuel, Lubricants and Coolant, quantity recommended in Section Specifications—Capacities.



  9. Start engine and run until operating temperature is reached.

  10. Check coolant level. Engine coolant level should be close to marking MAX. (A). If the coolant is at the marking MIN. (B), add coolant until reaching the level.
