Guidelines for Tractor Ballasting
Ballast Limitations
Do not install counterweights above specified limits.
Exceeding permitted weight may damage tractor components and void
warranty due to overloading.
Ballast is limited by either tire capacity or tractor capacity.
Do not exceed the load capacity for each tire. If more weight is required
for traction, use a larger single tire or double tires.
Correct Ballasting
Only use the ballasting necessary. Remove ballast when no longer
required. For correct ballasting, measure slip rate of the drive wheels.
Under normal conditions, slip rate should be from 10 to 15% for 4x2
tractors and from 8 to 12% for 4x4 tractors.
Place more weight if drive wheels continue slipping. Remove
excess weight if the slip is below the minimum percentage.
Ideal weight split for tractors can be consulted in “Determining
Ballast” section.
