Beware of asphyxiation. Exhaust fumes can damage health and even cause death. If running engine indoors, make sure there is sufficient ventilation.

  1. Check the fuel gauge to confirm the tractor has sufficient fuel.
  2. Set gearshift lever (A) to neutral or park, range lever (B) to neutral and PTO lever (C) to disengaged position. The starter motor will not turn over if the gearshift and power take-off levers are not in these positions.
  3. Set pick-up hitch control lever (D) to lowering position (all the way forward).
  4. Check warning lights. Warning lights will come on when key switch is set to ON. If some lights do not operate correctly, consult your John Deere dealership.
