Your John Deere tractor uses a safety system to prevent unexpected movement when starting engine.

On turning key switch, engine will turn only if the following conditions are met:

  • Gearshift Lever (A) should be set to P or Neutral.
  • Power take-off engage lever (B) should be in disengaged position.

If starter motor turns engine in one of the following steps, consult a John Deere dealership to repair the neutral start system.

When key switch is turned to start, the engine should not crank in the following conditions:

  • Gearshift lever (A) is in gear (not in park or in neutral).
  • Power take-off engage lever (B) is in engaged position.
