Change Engine Oil and Filter

IMPORTANT: If fuel sulfur content exceeds 0.5 percent, change the engine oil at 1/2 the normal interval.

NOTE: If engine has not run 250 hours before the season changes, change oil.

1. Run engine to warm oil.

2. Park machine on a level surface.

3. Lower all equipment to the ground.

IMPORTANT: Turbocharger may be damaged if engine is not properly shut down.

4. Move speed control lever to slow idle position.

5. Move FNR range lever to neutral "N".

causym CAUTION: Prevent possible injury from unexpected machine movement. NEVER rely on FNR range lever alone to keep machine from moving. Machine can unexpectedly roll or move under power, resulting in death or serious injury. Always set park brake to hold machine.

6. Set park brake.

7. Operate at 1/2 speed without load for two minutes.

8. Turn key switch to OFF position to stop engine. Remove key from switch.

9. Move hydraulic control levers to release hydraulic pressure.

10. Remove drain plug (A). Allow oil to drain.

NOTE: For machines (S.N. 830205- ) only: Access oil filter at underside of machine through hole in oil pan guard.

11. Turn filter (A) counterclockwise to remove.

12. Clean mounting surface. Apply thin film of oil to gasket of new filter.

13. Install new filter. Turn filter clockwise by hand until gasket touches mounting surface.

14. Tighten 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn more.

15. Install drain plug.

16. Remove filler cap (B). Fill engine with new oil. (See Fuels and Lubricants chapter.)

IMPORTANT: Before starting engine after a filter change, crank engine for 10 seconds without starting (fuel shut-off disconnected) to refill filter element and pre-lubricate turbocharger.

18. Disconnect fuel shut-off connector (A) so engine will not start. Crank engine for 10 seconds using starter motor. Connect fuel shut-off connector.

19. Start engine and run at slow idle.

20. Check that engine oil pressure light on monitor panel goes out and buzzer stops immediately. If not, stop engine immediately and find cause.

21. Stop the engine. Check for leaks around drain plug and filter. Tighten filter only enough to stop leaks.

22. Check oil level.
