Bleed Fuel System-748G-III

causym CAUTION: Escaping fluid under pressure can penetrate the skin causing serious injury. Avoid the hazard by relieving pressure before disconnecting hydraulic or other lines. Tighten all connections before applying pressure. Search for leaks with a piece of cardboard. Protect hands and body from high pressure fluids.

If an accident occurs, see a doctor immediately. Any fluid injected into the skin must be surgically removed within a few hours or gangrene may result. Doctors unfamiliar with this type of injury should reference a knowledgeable medical source. Such information is available from Deere & Company Medical Department in Moline, Illinois, U.S.A.

Whenever the fuel system has been opened up for service, it will be necessary to bleed air from the system.

1. Check filter drain screw to be sure it is tight.

2. Turn key switch to ON position.

4. Operate the hand primer (A) until bubble-free fuel flows from around the bleed screw.

5. Tighten bleed screw. Continue operating hand primer until a slight pressure is felt. The pressure indicates that fuel has filled the gallery in the injection pump.

6. Start engine. If engine will not start, it may be necessary to loosen the fuel line connections at the injection nozzles to bleed air from system. Put the speed control lever in slow idle position. Turn the engine with the starter (but do not start engine) until fuel without air flows from the loose fuel line connections.

7. Tighten all connections and start engine.
