Change Hydraulic Oil

1. Park machine on a level surface.

NOTE: Rotate upperstructure approximately 20 degrees to the right to add hydraulic oil to the hydraulic tank.

2. Lower front-mounted equipment to ground.

IMPORTANT: Turbocharger may be damaged if engine is not properly shut down.

3. Run engine at 1/2 speed for 2 minutes before stopping to avoid damage to turbocharger.

4. Move engine speed control knob to slow idle position.

5. Turn key switch OFF. Remove key from switch. (If maintenance must be performed with engine running, DO NOT leave machine unattended.)

6. Move battery disconnect switch to OFF position.

7. Attach a "Do Not Operate" tag to the right side control lever.

8. Remove lock pins (3).

causym CAUTION: High pressure release of oil from pressurized system can cause serious burns or injury. The hydraulic system is pressurized. Turn filler cap slowly. Release all pressure before you remove cap.

9. Remove cover (1). Turn filler cap (2) slowly to release air pressure. Remove cap.

10. Remove drain plug (4). Attach hose to drain plug. Allow oil to drain into a container. Dispose of waste oil properly.

11. While oil is draining, change hydraulic valve return filter, and pilot return and case drain filter. (See Maintenance-Every 500 Hours chapter.)

12. Inspect and clean suction screens. (See Cleaning Hydraulic Oil Strainer in Maintenance chapter.)

13. Install drain plug.

14. Add oil until oil level is at middle of top sight glass. Approximate capacity of hydraulic tank is 257 L (68 gal). (See Fuels and Lubricants chapter.)

15. Install filler cap. Lower cover. Secure cover.

16. Start engine and run engine for 5 minutes. Stop engine.

17. Check for leaks around filter bases. Tighten filters only enough to stop leaks. Check oil level at sight glass.
