Coolant System Maintenance and Checks (170 HP Engine)
Maintenance

Keep the front of radiator and oil cooler clean.

Keep the air inlet screen clean.

Check radiator and recovery tank hoses for kinks or obstructions.

Check all clamps for tightness.
Coolant
If coolant has to be added frequently, or if level in recovery tank does not drop when the system cools or expand when the system is hot, then the cooling system should be inspected and pressure tested for leaks. See your authorized dealer
Check freeze point of coolant in both radiator and recovery tank. Maintain a 50/50 coolant concentration mix of ethylene glycol (minimum) with recommended antifreeze and coolant conditioner for proper corrosion protection of cooling system. If antifreeze needs to be added then add to both radiator and recovery tank.
If Coolant System Overheats, Inspect Cooling System Components

Radiator-for leaks, clogging or dirty exterior or interior.

Oil Cooler-for leaks, clogging or dirty exterior or interior.

Side Shields-for clogging or damage which would allow debris to enter engine area

Radiator Cap-for not sealing completely or damage.

Thermostats-for not opening or closing completely.
-
Hose Clamps-for not being tight.
-
Hoses-for being either hard and cracking or too soft and swelling.

Fan Belts-for tension

Fan-for condition of blades (bent, twisted)
