Coolant System Maintenance and Checks (200 HP Engine)

Maintenance
  • Keep the front of radiator, oil cooler and charge air cooler clean.
  • Keep the air inlet screen clean.
  • Check radiator and surge tank hoses for kinks or obstructions.
  • Check all clamps for tightness.
Coolant

If coolant has to be added frequently then the cooling system should be inspected and pressure tested for leaks. See your authorized dealer

Check freeze point of coolant in surge tank. Maintain a 50/50 coolant concentration mix of ethylene glycol (minimum) with recommended antifreeze and coolant conditioner for proper corrosion protection of cooling system. Add coolant to surge tank as necessary.

If Coolant System Overheats, Inspect Cooling System Components
  • Radiator-for leaks, clogging or dirty exterior or interior.
  • Oil Cooler-for leaks, clogging or dirty exterior or interior.
  • Charge Air Cooler-for clogging or dirty interior or exterior.
  • Side Shields-for clogging or damage which would allow debris to enter engine area
  • Surge Tank Cap-for not sealing completely or damage.
  • Thermostats-for not opening or closing completely.
  • Hose Clamps-for not being tight.
  • Hoses-for being either hard and cracking or too soft and swelling.
  • Fan Belts-for tension
