IMPORTANT: Prevent possible engine damage. During cold temperatures, check fluidity of engine oil on dipstick. If the oil appears waxy and/or jelly-like rather than liquid, DO NOT attempt to start engine. Use external heat source to warm the crankcase until oil appears fluid.

Check all fluid levels. If low, check for leaks and add oil as required.

3. Check belts.

4. Check condition of all hoses and connections.

5. Check electrolyte level. Charge and install battery.

6. Fill fuel tank. (See Fuels and Lubricants chapter.)

7. Start and warm up engine. Run engine at 1/2 speed for 5 minutes. Do not run at fast or slow idle.

8. Bleed fuel system. If engine fails to start or runs poorly after starting, change fuel filter. Bleed fuel system again.

causym CAUTION: Prevent possible injury from unexpected machine movement. Clear the area of all persons before running machine through the operation procedure.

9. Make sure that area is clear to allow for movement. Operate (cycle) boom, arm, and front-mounted equipment functions for three complete cycles.

10. Operate the swing function for three complete revolutions in each direction.

11. Check condition of tracks. Check track sag.

12. Operate the propel functions in forward and reverse directions. This can be performed by one of two methods.

  • Propelling the machine in forward and reverse for a distance of 30 m (100 ft).

causym CAUTION: Keep the angle between boom and arm 90-110° to prevent machine from sliding backwards.

  • Raise each track (keeping angle between boom and arm 90-110°) (1) and propel in each direction for three revolutions.
