The fuel system must be primed after performing service procedures
on the fuel system, or whenever the fuel tank has been drained or
run dry and refilled.
-
Ensure that all fittings are tight.
-
Ensure that the fuel tank is at least 1/4 full.
-
Loosen final fuel filter bleed screw (2).
-
Operate primer pump (1) until fuel flows freely from bleed screw
without air bubbles.
-
Tighten final fuel filter bleed screw.
-
NOTE: The primer knob must be unscrewed to allow operation.
Always tighten primer knob after operation.
Operate primer pump until a significant increase in resistance
is felt, indicating that fuel has filled the gallery of the injection
pump.
-
NOTE: Engine may start while air is still present in one or
more injection lines. In this case, engine may run “rough”
until remaining air is pushed out of the fuel system. Operate engine
at slow idle for one minute. If engine operation “smoothes”
within one minute of operation, it is not necessary to bleed the remaining
injection lines.
Attempt to start the engine. If engine starts, it is not necessary
to perform the rest of this procedure. If engine does not start, continue
with procedure.

3 - Connector Fitting
Loosen fittings (3) connecting TWO of the injection lines
to the injection nozzles. Turn fittings counterclockwise one full
turn. DO NOT completely disconnect fittings.
-
CAUTION: Escaping fluid under pressure can penetrate the skin
causing serious injury. Avoid the hazard. Keep bystanders away from
machine while cranking the engine.
If an accident occurs,
see a doctor immediately. Any fluid injected into the skin must be
surgically removed within a few hours or gangrene may result. Doctors
unfamiliar with this type of injury should reference a knowledgeable
medical source.
Turn key switch to start position. Starter motor should crank.
DO NOT start engine. Operate starter motor until a small amount of
fuel flows from each loosened injection nozzle fitting.
-
Tighten all connections.
-
Repeat steps 2—6 for the remaining fuel injection lines
until the engine starts. In some cases it may not be necessary to
bleed the fuel system at all injection lines.
-
Check for leaks at all filters and fittings. Tighten only enough
to stop leaks. If leaks cannot be stopped, see your authorized dealer.
