Checking and Adjusting Alternator Belt

CAUTION: Avoid injury! Entanglement in a belt or sheave can cause serious injury. Stop engine and wait for all moving parts to stop.


Checking Belt Tension

  1. Raise attachment to service position. (See Using the Lift Cylinder Safety Support in the Safety section.)

  2. Park machine safely. (See Parking Safely in the Safety section.)

    Check alternator belt (A):

    • Inspect belt for excessive wear, damage, or stretching while in position on the sheaves.

    • Apply thumb pressure to the belt halfway between the sheaves. Belt deflection must meet specification.

Adjusting Belt Tension

    Loosen alternator adjustment bolt (B).



  2. Loosen alternator mounting bolt (C).

  3. Apply outward pressure to the alternator housing.

  4. Tighten alternator adjustment bolt and mounting bolt.

  5. Check belt tension:

    • Apply thumb pressure to the belt halfway between the sheaves. Belt deflection must meet specification.

  6. Lower attachment.
