Replacing Alternator Belt

CAUTION: Avoid injury! Entanglement in a belt or sheave can cause serious injury. Stop engine and wait for all moving parts to stop.

  1. Raise attachment to service position. (See Using the Lift Cylinder Safety Support in the Safety section.)

  2. Park machine safely. (See Parking Safely in the Safety section.)

    Remove two nuts (A) and cap screws (one on each side).



  4. Remove skid plate (B).

  5. Remove two cap screws (C) and lower coupler guard (D) and absorber (E) (if equipped) away from engine.

    Loosen screw (F) securing coupling to auxiliary pump shaft.



  7. Slide couplers (G) towards pump.

    Gas model shown. Alternator on opposite side of engine on Diesel model. Some parts removed for photo clarity.

    Loosen alternator adjustment bolt (H) and alternator mounting bolt (I).



  9. Pivot alternator inward to loosen belt tension.

  10. Replace alternator belt.

  11. Pivot alternator outward to tension alternator belt.

  12. Tighten adjustment bolt and mounting bolt.

  13. Check belt tension:

    • Apply thumb pressure to the belt halfway between the sheaves. Belt deflection must meet specification.

  14. Slide couplers (G) towards engine.

  15. Tighten screw retaining coupling to auxiliary pump shaft. Torque to specification.

  16. Diesel models - install coupler guard with two cap screws.

  17. Install skid plate with two cap screws and nuts.

  18. Lower attachment.
