Replacing Mower Deck Drive Belt (72 in. SD)

CAUTION: Avoid injury! Components are installed under spring tension. Wear eye protection and use proper tools when installing and removing components with spring tension.


Removing Deck Drive Belt

  1. Park machine safely. (See Parking Safely in the SAFETY section.)

  2. Lower mower deck to the lowest cutting height position.

    Remove deck belt shields (A).


  4. Remove foot plate.

    Remove nut (B).


  6. Loosen nuts (C). Do not remove.

  7. Remove four lock nuts and cap screws (D) holding mower deck gearbox bracket to frame.

  8. CAUTION: Avoid injury! Fingers and hands can be pinched or crushed. Be aware of potential pinch points and keep hands away.

    Remove belt (E) from sheave (F) and remove gearbox bracket from mower deck.


Belt Installation

  1. Fully loosen belt tension spring. Remove hardware securing mower deck gearbox bracket as shown in “Removing Deck Drive Belt”.

    Route drive belt (A) around mower deck sheaves as shown.

    Raise the gearbox (B) and slide the drive belt under sheave (C). Wrap belt around gear box drive sheave.


  4. Install gearbox bracket with four cap screws and washers (D).

  5. Install nut (E).

  6. NOTE: Spring length is 12.5 cm (4.9 in.) inside of hooks (F).

    Adjust tension for mower deck drive belt, and tighten tension bracket mounting cap screws (G).

  7. Install foot plate.

  8. Install belt shields.
