Operate Rear and Mid Power-Take-Off (PTO)
Avoid Damage! Use rear mounted equipment rated for
540 rpm. Do not operate mid or rear PTO over 540 rpm mark on tachometer.
Do not use the mid PTO operation when the operator is
off the seat. Rear PTO operation is possible out of seat provided
proper sequence is followed.
Engaging the PTO—Operator on Seat

Sit on the operator seat.

Lock the park brake.
-
Move the range-shift lever to the neutral “N” position.
-
If the PTO/RIO switch is in any engaged/on position, the
machine does not start.
Start the engine.
-
Set engine speed to 1500 rpm or less.

Move the PTO lever (A) to desired operating position.

Position (B) - Mid PTO only.

Position (C) - Mid and Rear PTO.

Position (D) - Rear PTO only.

Push PTO/RIO switch forward to the engaged/on position.
-
Adjust the throttle lever forward to the desired speed for the
implement used.
-
The LCD indicates the PTO speed at an engine speed of
3200 rpm.
At 3200 engine rpm the mid PTO speed is 2100 rpm and rear PTO
speed is 540 rpm.

If PTO shuts off during use, turn off the engine and the PTO/RIO
switch. Lock park brake. Allow engine to cool. Check coolant level
and add coolant if necessary. Clean debris away from radiator cooling
fins. Sit on seat, and start engine. Push PTO/RIO switch forward to
the engaged/on position. If PTO still does not engage, see your local
John Deere Dealer for service.
Using Rear Power-Take-Off (PTO)—Operator off Seat

Sit on the operator seat,
-
Lock the park brake.
-
Move the range-shift lever to the neutral “N” position.
-
If the PTO/RIO switch is in the engaged/on position, the
machine does not start.
Start the engine.

Set engine speed to 1500 rpm or less.
-
Move the PTO lever (A) to Position (D) - Rear PTO only.
-
Exit seat for rear PTO operation without the operator on seat.
-
Push PTO/RIO switch forward to the engaged/on position.
-
Adjust the throttle lever forward to the desired speed for the
implement used.
Disengaging the PTO
-
Adjust engine rpm to low idle.
-
Push PTO/RIO switch rearward to the disengaged/off position.
