Starting the Engine

  1. Engine exhaust fumes contain carbon monoxide and can cause serious illness or death.

    Do not run an engine in an enclosed area, such as a garage, even with doors or windows opened.

    Move the machine to an outside area before running the engine.

    Starting fluid combusts rapidly and can cause internal engine damage.

    Do not use any type of starting fluid in cold weather to assist starting. The engine is designed to start in cold-weather conditions. See your authorized dealer for other starting aids for your machine.

    You must depress brake pedal, or lock park brake, before you can start engine. Be sure that PTO switch is off.

    Open fuel shutoff valve.

  2. Lock park brake or depress brake pedal.

    Push throttle lever (A) up to between 1/2 and fast position.



  4. Turn key to run position.

  5. Check indicator lights:

    1. Instrument cluster does a brief light check.

    2. Engine preheat indicator comes on and goes out within approximately 8 seconds. If engine is warm, the time may be less.

  6. Turn key to start position:

    1. Crank engine.

    2. If engine does not start within 5 seconds, turn key to stop position and wait 10 seconds.

    3. Crank engine again for 5 seconds.

    Repeat this procedure if necessary.

  7. When engine starts, release key. The key will return to run position and all indicator lights should be off. If a light does not go off, stop engine and perform appropriate service.
