Checking and Replacing Air Filtration System ( Z720E, Z730M
and Z740R)
Dirt and debris can enter the engine when removing
the air cleaner elements. Service elements only at prescribed intervals.
Z720E:
-
Park machine safely. (See Parking Safely in the SAFETY section)

Let the engine cool down.
-
Clean dirt and debris from the air cleaner cover.

Unsnap and lift air cleaner cover up by the handles (A).
-
To prevent engine damage, do not allow any foreign
objects to fall into the carburetor or air intake tube.

Take out filter cartridge (B) and inspect it for damage.
During filter cartridge removal, remove any material or
foreign object that enters the air intake tube before replacement
of the cartridge.
The air cleaner elements are not recommended to be cleaned.

Do not wash air cleaner elements.

Do not oil air cleaner elements.
-
Do not use pressurized air to clean air cleaner elements.
-
Do not attempt to clean paper element by tapping against another
object.
-
Inspect paper filter element. Replace element only if it is
very dirty, damaged or the seal is cracked.
-
Clean air cleaner base carefully.
-
Install cartridge. Make sure that cartridge and seal are properly
fitted and seal the carburetor air intake area.
-
Position air filter in air filter base and align air filter.
-
Snap air cover cleaner back into place.
Z730M:
-
Park machine safely. (See Parking Safely in the SAFETY section)

Let the engine cool down.

Clean dirt and debris from the air cleaner cover.

Loosen two knobs (B) by rotating 1 quarter anticlockwise
and remove cover (C).
-
During filter cartridge removal, remove any material or
foreign object that enters the air intake tube before replacement
of the cartridge.

Take out filter cartridge (A) and inspect it for damage.

Inspect the foam pre-cleaner without removing it. If the foam
pre-cleaner is dirty:
-
Remove it from the filter carefully.
-
Do not oil pre-cleaner. Oil gets absorbed into the paper
filter element and results in poor engine performance.
Wash pre-cleaner in a solution of warm water and liquid detergent.
-
Rinse pre-cleaner thoroughly. Squeeze out excess water in a
dry cloth until pre-cleaner is completely dry.

Replace the pre-cleaner if damaged.
-
Inspect paper filter element. Replace element only
-
Clean air cleaner base carefully.
-
Install paper filter element with foam pre-cleaner mesh in upward
position.
-
Position air filter in air filter base and align air filter.
-
Install air cleaner cover and tighten knobs by rotating clockwise
a quarter.
Z740R:
-
Park machine safely. (See Parking Safely in the SAFETY section)

Let the engine cool down.

Unhook the latch (D) by lifting and remove cover (E).

Remove primary element (F) secondary element (G).
The air cleaner elements are not recommended to be cleaned.

Do not wash air cleaner elements.
-
Do not oil air cleaner elements.
-
Do not use pressurized air to clean air cleaner elements.
-
Inspect air cleaner elements and replace if dirty when the primary
element is checked and replaced.
-
Replace the secondary element if dirty when the primary element
is checked and replaced.
-
Clean the housing (H) with detergent and water. Dry thoroughly
with a clean cloth.
If the housing is damaged, it must be replaced.
-
Check the housing for deformation or other damage.
-
The housing must seal well and permit only filtered air to reach
the carburetor.
-
Check that no foreign material is obstructing the air passage.
-
Install new element.
-
Replace cover with the “up” mark on the cover at the twelve
o’clock position and secure latches.
