Storing Cutter (End of Season)

1. Store cutter on blocks to allow air circulation under deck.

2. Put cutter in a dry place.

3. Clean cutter thoroughly. Trash and dirt will draw moisture and cause rust.

4. Lubricate complete machine. (See Lubrication and Maintenance section.)

5. Check condition of blades. Replace as necessary.

6. Check for loose or missing hardware.

7. Paint all parts where necessary.

8. Keep PTO driveline off ground. Attach to top of hitch/mast or remove front half and store indoors.

IMPORTANT: After long idle periods, linings of slip clutch may draw moisture. Linings

may bond to metal parts causing slip clutch to be ineffective. Relieving spring load on the disks during storage will reduce this problem.

9. Turn the four set screws on slip clutch all the way in to relieve spring load on clutch disks.

10. Pull-Type with used aircraft tires; Put blocking under axles, taking load off tires. DO NOT DEFLATE TIRES. If exposed, put covers over tires to protect them from light, grease and oil.

11. Pull-Type and Semi-Mount;

  • Check condition of hydraulic hose(s) and connections. Repair if necessary.
  • Attach hydraulic hose(s) to tractor hydraulics and retract cylinder rod fully.

12. List replacement parts needed and order them early from your John Deere dealer.
