Determining Front Ballast (Lift-Type and Semi-Mount-HX10)

causym CAUTION: To help prevent personal injury caused by loss of steering control, be sure tractor is equipped with proper amount of front ballast.

John Deere engineers have developed an implement code to determine how much front ballast is needed on the tractor for stability and steering control.

The cutter is approved for use on tractors that meet or exceed the implement codes. Tractor stability is necessary for safe operation. (See your tractor Operator's manual for complete ballasting information.)

Determine required ballast by using information in chart.

Implement Codes-HX10
Model Type (Base Machine) Code
Lift-Type 170
Semi-Mount (with or without hydraulic offset) 60
Attachments

Lift-Type 5
Semi-Mount 6
Rear Solid Safety Shield
Lift-Type 11
Semi-Mount 1
Rear Chain Safety Shield
Lift-Type 16
Semi-Mount 2
Extra Tailwheel (Each)
Lift-Type 13

Implement Codes-HX14
Model Type (Base Machine) Code
Lift-Type 239
Attachments
Front Rubber Safety Shield 5
Front Chain Safety Shield 7
Front Cotton Row (Solid) Shield 5
Rear Solid Safety Shield 15
Extra Tailwheel (Each) 22

1. Enter base machine implement code on line 1.

2. Enter code for each attachment on line 2.

3. Add to determine total implement code.

Example:
Line 1 (base machine)...100
Line 2 (attachment)...10

Total Implement Code... 110

4. See your tractor operator's manual to determine amount of front ballast.

IMPORTANT: If the total implement code exceeds the maximum implement code for your tractor, the machine/attachment combination is not recommended.
