Fill Gear Cases

IMPORTANT: Cutter is shipped without gear case lubricant. DO NOT operate the cutter without filling gear cases with specified amount of lubricant or gear cases will be damaged.

NOTE: Perform the following procedures on all three gear cases. Right-hand side, HX14, shown.

1. Remove and discard shipping plug in top of gear case.

2. Fill gear case according to initial fill specifications with John Deere GL-5 GEAR LUBRICANT, or equivalent. (See Lubrication and Maintenance section.)

Center Gear Case
HX10 2.3 L (2.4 U.S. qt)
HX14-540 rpm 2.5 L (2.6 U.S. qt)
HX14-1000 rpm 2.7 L (2.9 U.S. qt)
Side/Outer Gear Cases 2.2 L (2.3 U.S. qt)

3. Install dipstick/vent (A) and screw in fully, then remove. Oil level should be between lines (B). Add oil, as necessary.

4. Install dipstick/vent.

IMPORTANT: Oil will move into lower cavity of gear case during initial operation. Check oil level after 30 minute break-in period.
