Shafts and gears break

Slip clutch seized causing components to receive high shock loads.

Inspect clutch linings and repair or replace as necessary. (See your John Deere dealer.)

Oil seal at blade holder leaks

Operating with grass or wire wrapped on shaft in seal area.

Check seal areas regularly and clean off material.

Removing blade holder using heat can damage seal.

Replace seal and suggest use of puller at next removal of blade holder.
