Symptom Problem Solution

Vibration

Loose blades.

Tighten to specified torque. (See REPLACING BLADES in Service section.)

Broken blade.

Replace blade. (See REPLACING BLADES in Service section.)

Blades have unequal weight.

Replace blades in pairs. Check for bent blade holder that would cause one blade to wear faster.

Blade will not swing.

Remove blade and repair. (See REPLACING BLADES in Service section.)

Bent driveline.

Repair driveline. (See your John Deere dealer.)

Bent blade holder.

Replace blade holder. (See your John Deere dealer.)

Side skirt wear

Cutting too low.

Increase cutting height. (See ADJUSTING CUTTING HEIGHT/TAILWHEEL POSITION in Operating the Cutter section.)

Abrasive soil.

Increase cutting height. (See ADJUSTING CUTTING HEIGHT/TAILWHEEL POSITION in Operating the Cutter section.)

Improper cutting angle adjustment.

Adjust cutting height. (See ADJUSTING CUTTING HEIGHT/TAILWHEEL POSITION in Operating the Cutter section.)

Tailwheel support fails

Hitting objects when turning.

Reduce ground speed.

Lowering machine too fast.

Adjust rate of drop. (See procedure in Attaching and Detaching section.)
