Checking Driveline Shields

causym CAUTION: Before servicing machine refer to LUBRICATING AND MAINTAINING MACHINE SAFELY at the beginning of this section.

Check driveline shields by making sure they rotate freely. Lubricate or repair if necessary. (See DISASSEMBLING AND ASSEMBLING DRIVELINE SHIELD in Service section.)


A-Driveline Shield

Check Hitch Pin Torque

1. Check hitch pin lock nut (A) on each mast periodically to be sure they are tight.

2. Tighten to specifications.

Hitch Pin Lock Nut -Torque 590 N·m (435 lb-ft)

Adjusting Slip Clutch

IMPORTANT: Rotary cutter slip clutches have a tendency to seize up if left idle for some time. Proceed as follows to slip the clutch before using.

Perform the following steps using the tractor that will operate cutter.

1. Remove access cover (A).

NOTE: Driveline removed for illustration purposes. LX6 clutch shown. LX4 and LX5 are similar.

2. Loosen six lock nuts (D) progressively leaving some tension on belleville spring (C).

3. To aid in determining slippage, scribe/mark a line across clutch hub and plates.

causym CAUTION: Help prevent personal injury to bystanders from thrown objects. Be sure no one is near the cutter when adjusting.

4. Start tractor and engage PTO intermittently at low rpm, slipping the clutch four or five times.

5. Stop tractor engine and remove key.

IMPORTANT: To avoid driveline damage, DO NOT overtighten cap screws and lock nuts. A gap must be left between clutch plate (B) and belleville spring (C).

6. Tighten cap screws and lock nuts (D) leaving a gap (A) between clutch plate (B) and spring (C) according to specifications.

Specification

Clutch Plate-to-Spring -Gap 4 mm (0.157 in.)

causym CAUTION: To help prevent bodily injury or death from entanglement in rotating drivelines, replace all shielding removed and replace any missing or damaged shielding. Never operate machine without shielding.

7. Install cover on access hole.
