Pneumatic Braking System

The crop sprayer may also be fitted with a 2-line (non-separated) pneumatic braking system (optional). For this purpose, the tractor must be equipped with an air system with external connection possibilities, of course.

When connecting the air pressure hoses to the tractor, first attach the command line (yellow coupling) and next the supply line (red coupling).

When disconnecting the air pressure hoses from the tractor, first detach the supply line (red coupling) and next the command line (yellow coupling).

Driving position:... From the tractor, compressed air is pressed to the trailer brake valve (D) via the supply line coupling (A). Via connections on the trailer brake valve, the compressed air flows to the air storage tank (E). If sufficient air pressure is available in the storage tank (E) and release valve (H) is not activated, air will flow to the brake cylinders (I) to release the integrated parking brake.
Brake position:... When operating the brake valve of the tractor, air is pressed to the trailer brake line (B) and the trailer brake valve (D). As a result, this valve sends the compressed air to the brake cylinder (I) via quick release valve (K).
Release position:... When releasing the air from the trailer command line (B), the trailer brake valve (D) is reversed, so that the air pressure on the brake cylinders (I) is removed via quick release valve (K).
Function on loss or detachment of the trailer:... When releasing the air from the trailer supply line (A), the trailer brake valve (D) is reversed, so that the machine is automatically braked.
Shunting valve function:... To be able to move the pulled machine after detachment without the tractor, the shunting valve (L) must be operated. This reverses the trailer brake valve, enabling the air to flow from the brake cylinders.
If the machine is attached once again, the release valve will automatically return to its initial position as the control knob jumps out. Now the machine is ready for braking again.
Parking brake function:... If release valve (H) is opened, the air pressure in the air brake cylinders (I) will be released, so the integrated parking brakes with springs will be engaged.

Brake Power Regulator

causym CAUTION: Never set the brake power regulator on zero load. For sprayers with an empty tank the minimum position for the brake power regulator has to be partial load.

The brake cylinder pressure on the sprayer is slightly higher than the brake pressure on the tractor (leading), which prevents the sprayer from closing in on the tractor during braking. To prevent the wheels from blocking, the brake pressure can be pre-set according to the weight of the machine by means of the brake power regulator (A). In the case of higher wheel loads, the wheels are able to absorb higher brake forces. By means of control lever (B) it is possible to set the brake power to zero load (not used), partial load (empty to half-full tank) of full load (full tank), thus gearing the brake power to the wheel load.

NOTE: The "empty" position can be blocked, depending on the axle brake cylinder configuration.

Shunting without Air Pressure Brakes Connected

IMPORTANT: When travelling on public roads, the release valve control knob must always be in the out position.

When the machine is detached, it can be braked by pulling down the release valve control knob (A). Pushing the control knob upward will vent the brake system, enabling movement of the machine. On a detached machine, this procedure may be repeated up to 8 times before the pressure in the compressed air storage tank becomes too low to operate the brake system.

Compressed Air Storage Tank

The compressed air storage tank is located at the rear of the machine behind the solution tank. There is a drain valve (A) at the bottom of the compressed air storage tank. Pushing the pin will drain any condensed water from the tank. This water must be removed daily to prevent corrosion, freezing and a reduced air capacity.

Chocks

Machine with brake systems are provided with two chocks (A) that may be placed behind the wheels as an extra security (for instance on slopes) when the machine has been uncoupled. The chocks are located at the right front side of the machine and locked with a security pin for transport.

Air Pressure Parking Brake

When the release valve is opened (A) , the air pressure in the brake cylinders will be released. The parking brake will then be activated automatically by means of integrated coil springs.

When the release valve is closed (B), air pressure from the compressed air storage tank will engage the brake cylinders (if sufficient air pressure available).

If there is not enough air pressure in the compressed air storage tank, the brake cylinders can be disengaged mechanically by screwing in the nut on the threaded rod at the rear of the brake cylinder. This rod with nut and washer is located at the side of the standard air brake cylinder (C). This rod needs to be screwed into the air brake cylinder after the plastic plug has been removed. Turn the nut clockwise to release the air brake cylinder. On the high speed axles (10 bolt axle), the threaded rod is already installed. Turn the nut counter clockwise to release the air brake cylinder.

IMPORTANT: This disengagement is only for emergency purposes, this position may not be used for transport. When machine is parked, always use the wheel chocks.
