Adapter Cable for External Target Rate
John Deere sprayers are compatible with the Yara N-Sensor (former Hydro N-sensor) to enable variable application of liquid fertilizer. Although the N-sensor is not delivered by John Deere, customers may use the sensor with their John Deere sprayers. The Yara N-Sensor continuously measures the biomass and the chlorophyll contents of the crop and calculates the optimum nitrogen amount for each individual part of a field. The required nitrogen level of cereal crops for the second and third application is determined by the nitrogen sensor and send to an additional controller (WTK-Terminal) that translates the sensor data into an application rate. The N-sensor controller can be linked to the EL-4 control box through the RS-232 serial connection and sends the target rate to the sprayer controller. The John Deere EL-4 controller adjusts the target application rate to the measured value of the nitrogen sensor "on the go". The actual application rate is transmitted back to the N-sensor controller (WTK-Terminal) for documentation.
When the target application rate should be adjusted via a external source, connect (A) to the EL-4 control box and connect the RS-232 (B) to the external device.
To accept an external target rate from the N-sensor, the RS-232 communication needs to be enabled in the machine settings of the EL-4 Controller.
Switch on the device by pressing the "PRO" key once (the software version and serial number will be displayed) and wait 5 seconds until the normal working display appears. Check whether switch "M" of the master shut-off valve is set to "off". Press and hold down both keys "+" and "-" simultaneously and then press the "PRO" key twice to enter the machine program (PRO SYS).
