Nozzles

The function of nozzles is the dosage, distribution and atomisation of the spraying liquid into drops, so that the liquid is distributed evenly and in the correct dosage over the surface to be covered.

The choice of nozzle has a great effect on the spraying result. The choice is determined by the working principle of the chemical (systemic or contact chemical), the permeability of the crop, the weather conditions, the type of crop protection and the required application rate. The choice of nozzles is dealt with in more detail in "Nozzle selection" in the section entitled "Working with the machine".

The machine can be supplied with the following types of nozzles as standard:

  • XR 80°TEEJET ® extended range flat fan nozzles in sizes 01 up to 08 (stainless steel)
  • XR 110° TEEJET ® extended range flat fan nozzles in sizes 01 up to 08 (polymer or ceramic)
  • TT 110° TEEJET ® anti drift precision deflector nozzles in sizes 01 up to 08 (polymer)
  • AI 110° TEEJET ® air induction (Venturi) nozzles in sizes 015 up to 08 (stainless steel)
  • ID 120° LECHLER ® air induction (Venturi) nozzles in sizes 01 up to 08 (polymer or ceramic)
  • IDK 120° LECHLER ® air induction compact (Venturi) nozzles in sizes 015 up to 05 (polymer)

The type of nozzle is indicated on the coloured nozzle tip.

Conventional Nozzles

Virtually all spraying work can be carried out using the TwinFluid air/liquid nozzles. In some cases (e.g. higher output for liquid fertilizers), conventional hydraulic nozzles can also be used.

The type of nozzle is indicated on the coloured nozzle tip e.g. XR-11004VP. The meaning of the "small type" on the conventional nozzles is given in the illustration.

TwinFluid Air/Liquid Nozzles

In the TwinFluid air/liquid nozzles, compressed air ensures droplet formation. The nozzle contains an insert (standard insert type 035 or optional type 042). The insert can be taken out with a separate tool after removing the deflector nozzle. Liquid is supplied at the side of the nozzle, directly before the membrane. At 90° from there, air produced by the oil-free compressor, is injected into the liquid. The droplets formed are then distributed via a deflector nozzle shaped jet disc (standard flow tip FloodJet TK-SS10). Besides droplet formation, the air also ensures an increased output speed. This reduces the amount of drift.

1-FloodJet deflector nozzles ensure optimal distribution of the spraying liquid and even coverage of the crop.
2-In the mixing chamber, the liquid is mixed with air to form a fan with a wide spraying angle. Through adjustment of both the air and liquid pressure, the required droplet size and spraying volume can be set.

3-Liquid input from the spray line. The liquid pressure is controlled by the spraying computer.

5-Air from a compressor fitted to the machine is added to the liquid here. The air pressure is controlled by the TwinFluid Controller.

Coding for nozzle type

A) Nozzle type; the two letters indicate the type:

  • XR:TEEJET ® Extended range (extended pressure range)
  • DG:TEEJET ® Drift Guard (anti-drift)
  • TT:TEEJET ® Turbo (coarse droplets)
  • AI:TEEJET ® Air Induction (injector)
  • ID:LECHLER ® Injektor Düse (air induction nozzle)
  • IDK:LECHLER ® Injektor Düse Kompakt (air induction nozzle)

B) Brand name

C) The first two or three digits indicate the spray angle of the nozzle in degrees, 80°, 110° or 120°.

D) The final two or three digits indicate the capacity of the nozzle. The indication is an American size, namely the volume in gallons/minute at a pressure of 40 psi. The higher the digit, the larger the volume. A size 06 nozzle has double the volume of a size 03 nozzle, for example.

E) If the first letter behind the digits is a "V", this refers to VisiFlo colour coding (ISO standard).

F) The final letter indicates the material from which the nozzle is made:

  • P: polymer
  • S: stainless steel
  • K: ceramic

Special nozzles are often used for application of liquid fertilizers, such as 3-hole or 8- hole nozzles, drop pipe nozzles or drop hoses.
