Sprayer Main Page

The drop down menu for the spray quality (on the Sprayer - Main page) will also show the relevant settings for low drift when the appropriate low drift regulation setting is entered. Selecting softkey C will step through the settings as an alternative method to change them.

In many European countries it is mandatory to comply with legal standards and restrictions when spraying chemicals and fertilizer along water courses or in water protection areas to prevent pollution and to reduce environmental contamination. The following measures are often required:

1. Use of certified low drift nozzles (50%, 75%, 90% or 95% drift reduction class) and edge nozzles
2. Spraying needs to be performed below a certain wind speed.
3. Spraying height above the target may not exceed a certain value.
4. Compliance of certain buffer zone at the field boundary along water courses or in water protection areas. The width of the buffer zones is determined

by crop, field, chemical and drift reduction class of the sprayer.

The buffer zones at water courses or sensitive areas can often be reduced significantly by using spraying equipment which reduces drift. The John Deere TwinFluid sprayer is therefore listed in the following drift reduction classes:

Certified low drift settings can be easily selected from the GreenStar 2 controller by pressing only one button. This makes it possible to change from fine to coarse droplet sizes "on-the-go" to reduce drift when spraying field boundaries near water courses and to achieve a much more effective spray quality (finer droplet sizes with a better coverage rate) when spraying in the field.

Application rate and air pressure are automatically controlled by the GreenStar 2 controller. If the resulting liquid pressure does not meet the low drift setting range, the display will ask the operator to drive faster or slower, until the liquid pressure matches the drift setting while the application rate remains at target level.

Regulation Settings - Low Drift Settings

Activate Low Drift settings

To activate and select the country specific low drift settings, select "Machine Settings" then the "Regulations Settings" tab, "Low Drift Settings". In the display field is a drop-down menu, select and enter the setting you require.

  • Select LERAP to use the low drift settings according to the UK LERAP Star Rating
  • Select BBA to use the low drift settings according to the German drift reduction classification
  • Select AmvB to use the low drift settings according to the Dutch drift reduction classification
  • Select OFF to deactivate the use the low drift settings.

In the "Sprayer Main" page the required low drift settings are also displayed. They can be selected again via a drop-down menu:

  • Legal requirement for UK LERAP drift reduction in Star rating ** or ***
  • Legal requirement for German BBA drift reduction class 50% or 75%
  • Legal requirement for Dutch AmvB drift reduction class 50%, 75% or 90%
  • "Off", the standard droplet sizes can be selected (VF, F, M, & C) to spray outside the buffer zone

When "OFF" is selected the required droplet size will be available for selection.

Regulation Settings - Low Drift Settings

When spraying near the buffer zone with the required low drift setting, the GreenStar 2 display informs the operator which speed he needs to drive. When the area outside the buffer zone is sprayed, the low drift setting can be switched "OFF" via the drop-down menu on the "Sprayer Main" page. The desired spray quality (i.e. Fine Spray) can be selected.

Pressing softkey C provides quick activation and deactivation "on-the-go" and automatic regulation of the desired low drift settings according to local regulations.

The GreenStar 2 controller will automatically adjust the air pressure to meet the required low drift rating. It will also continue to control liquid pressure to regulate the desired application rate. If the resulting liquid pressure does not meet the low drift setting range, the display will ask the operator to drive faster or slower, until the liquid pressure matches the drift setting while the application rate remains at target level.

See "drift reduction classification" above to check if the application rate matches the desired low drift setting and speed.
