Adapter Cable for External Target Rate

John Deere sprayers are compatible with the Yara N-Sensor (former Hydro N-sensor) to enable variable application rates of liquid fertilizer. Although the N-sensor is not delivered by John Deere, customers might want to use the sensor with their John Deere sprayers. The Yara N-Sensor continuously measures the biomass and the chlorophyll contents of the crop and calculates the optimum nitrogen amount for each individual part of a field. The required nitrogen level of cereal crops for the second and third application is determined by the nitrogen sensor and send to an additional controller (WTK-Terminal) that translates the sensor data into an application rate. The N-sensor controller can be linked to the EHC-2 control box (with GreenStar display) through the RS-232 serial connection and sends the target rate to the sprayer controller. The John Deere GreenStar controller adjusts the target application rate to the measured value of the nitrogen sensor "on the go". The actual application rate is transmitted back to the N-sensor controller (WTK-Terminal) for documentation. When the rate should be adjusted via a external source connect (A) to the EHC-2 control box, and connect the RS-232 (B) to the external device. The regulation setting should be set to external rate. The controller of the Yara N-Sensor can be easily connected to the EHC-2 control box (with GreenStar display) with an adapter cable (serial connection RS 232). The software of the GreenStar controller provides a fast and easy adjustment to accept an external target rate of the N-sensor.

The "Use External Target Rate" setting can be found in "Job Settings" softkey G, tick the field to enable.
