Starting the Engine

causym CAUTION: Never operate the engine in a closed building. Make sure there is plenty of ventilation.

Danger of asphyxiation!

Use the seat belt whenever you operate the machine.

1. Make sure that battery main switch (A) is in ON position, as shown.

2. Fasten seat belt.

3. Apply parking brake (B).

4. Set the FNR lever (C) to neutral position.

5. On machines with Synchro-Shuttle transmission, set gear shift lever (D) to neutral.

6. Depress the accelerator (E) approximately one third through its travel.

causym CAUTION: Sound horn before starting engine to clear people away from the machine.

7. Sound horn and turn key in main switch (F) clockwise to end position. Release key as soon as engine starts. Check that the warning lights go out.

Do not operate starting motor for more than 20 seconds at a time. Turn main switch key to "off" position and wait at least one minute before trying again.

On 3215 and 3415 telescopic handler do not adjust accelerator. Run engine for a few minutes. At temperatures below zero, extend warm-up period accordingly.

On 3220 and 3420 telescopic handler do not adjust accelerator. The electronic fuel injection pump is set at a higher slow idle (1050 rpm) until coolant temperature reaches 20°C (68°F).
