Electrical Starting Aid (3220 and 3420)
CAUTION:
Never use Ether starting fluid when starting the engine with an electrical starting aid.
The electrical starting aid is made of one intake air heater used to increase intake manifold air temperature to improve cold starting. The ECU energizes the air heater relay in cold weather.
1.
Proceed as described under points 1 to 4, "Starting the Engine".
2.
Turn the main switch key clockwise to the ON position (A). Light (B) will glow until engine control unit (ECU) has de-energized the air heater relay.
3.
Once light (B) has stopped glowing, start the engine.
IMPORTANT:
The engine may not start as long as the light (B) is glowing. After an unsuccessful attempt to start the engine, turn the key to the OFF position and then to the ON position again to allow a new preheating process.
Never operate starting motor more than 20 seconds at a time. Turn the key to the OFF position and wait at least one minute before trying again.
Do not adjust accelerator. The electronic fuel injection pump is set at a higher slow idle (1050 rpm) until coolant temperature reaches 20°C (68°F).
