Changing Engine Oil and Filter - John Deere POWERTECH® 12.5 L Engine

IMPORTANT: Observe the utmost cleanliness when installing replacement filter element.

NOTE: Change engine oil and filter for the first time before 100 hours of operation and every 250 hours thereafter.

If John Deere PLUS-50 ® engine oil and a John Deere oil filter are used, the oil and filter change interval may be extended by 50 percent or to 375 hours.

Run the engine for approx. 5 minutes to heat up oil and shut engine off.

Remove oil pan drain plug (A) and drain crankcase oil while warm.

Remove filter (B) and dispose of properly.

Dispose of filter packing. Clean mounting pad.

IMPORTANT: Fill the new oil filter with clean lubricating oil. The lack of lubrication during the delay until filter is filled with oil is harmful to the engine.

Oil the new packing and install a new filter. When sealing ring is just touching the mounting surface, tighten filter manually by another 1/2 to 3/4 revolution. Do NOT overtighten filter.

Install oil drain plug (A).

Fill crankcase with correct engine oil at filler neck (C).

Crankcase oil capacity (with filter change): 42 L (11.1 US. gal.)

NOTE: The actual capacity may vary slightly from the figure stated above. Fill crankcase until the oil is up to the upper mark on the dipstick. Do not overfill!

IMPORTANT: Remove fuse 3F19 immediately after completing any change and crank engine for 30 seconds. This will ensure proper lubrication of all engine parts during the starting procedure. Re-install fuse 3F19.

Start engine and check for leaks.

Stop engine and check oil level after 10 minutes. The oil should still be up to the upper mark on the dipstick.
