Starting Motor

IMPORTANT: When working on the electrical system, always disconnect the ground cable. This prevents damage from occurring.

If starting motor fails to operate or does not operate properly, determine the cause.

If the remedies suggested fail to improve starting motor operation, see your local John Deere dealer. Have starting motor thoroughly inspected by a qualified serviceman once a year.

Loose, dirty or corroded connections : Clean and tighten all connections.

Low battery output : Check electrolyte level and specific gravity of battery. Recharge battery if necessary.

Run-down battery : Recharge battery.

Engine oil of wrong viscosity : Drain and refill crankcase with specified oil.

Low ambient temperature : Use ether starting aid.

Defective starting motor safety relay : Replace relay.
