Obtaining Optimum Harvesting Performance

1-Properly set or adjust harvesting unit (refer to the relevant harvesting unit Operator's Manual).

2-After attaching the harvesting unit, ballast forage harvester correctly (refer to section Wheels and Ballast).

3-Make sure that correct number of feed roll springs is installed and that the springs are properly positioned and adjusted (see "Feed Roll Spring Attaching Points" and "Adjusting Feed Roll Springs" in section Feeding System).

4-Make sure that smooth roll scraper adjustment is correct (see "Adjusting Smooth Roll Scraper" in section Feeding System).

5-Sharpen cutterhead knives, if necessary.

6-Adjust stationary knife after sharpening cutterhead knives.

7-Adjust stationary knife BETWEEN sharpening intervals:

  • Once with half-a-day sharpening intervals
  • Twice with whole-day sharpening intervals

8-Adjust stationary knife between sharpening intervals to save power and improve quality of cut.

9-Install and adjust spiral floor (see "Installing Spiral Floor" and "Adjusting Spiral Floor" in section Cutterhead, Drives, Guards, Covers).

NOTE: Check/re-adjust the spiral floor every time the header or the tires are changed.

10-Depending on harvested crop, use the right type of kernel processor rolls (see "Kernel Processor Rolls" in section Harvesting Units and Attachments).

NOTE: Keep the kernel processor roll teeth in good condition to maintain an accelerated material flow.

11-Make sure the blower paddles are correctly adjusted for true running and good flow of material (see "Replacing and Adjusting of Blower Paddles-General" in section Discharge).

12-Refer to "Removing Forage Harvester from Storage" in section Storage.
