Automatic Knife Sharpening Mode
Automatic knife sharpen mode will be entered by pressing the automatic knife sharpen mode switch (A). If the electronic system has accepted the automatic knife sharpen request, appropriate icons and status information will be displayed by the performance monitor. The automatic knife sharpen function will be a two step process that first implements knife sharpening and then knife burnishing.
There are different functionalities for vehicles equipped with an IVLOC and vehicles equipped with a four-speed LOC.
Four-Speed LOC
For the four-speed LOC configuration, the automatic knife sharpen function will request a fixed engine speed of 1650 rpm so the cutterhead can be turned with the required cutterhead reverse speed.
IVLOC
If the vehicle is equipped with an IVLOC, the automatic knife sharpen function will allow to perform the process at any operator selectable engine speed. If the default cutterhead reverse speed (or the fixed cutterhead reverse speed for a four-speed LOC) is reached, the electronic system will control the sharpen door motor. The sharpen door motor will be turned off when the position sensor is indicating that the door reached the calibrated open position.
The stone sweep motor will move the sharpening stone to the calibrated position. While in this mode the sharpening stone will first be moved between the stone lowering position and the sweep in position (sharpening cycle). During burnishing cycle the sharpening stone will be moved between the sweep in and the finish position. During burnishing cycles, the stone will not be lowered towards the cutterhead.
